On 3 March, the West Sichuan Branch of the Sichuan Water Pollution Control Service Association was inaugurated in Xichang. Guests from across Sichuan and Xichang, together with more than 100 professionals involved in water-pollution control, attended the ceremony. The association read the notice establishing the branch. Chairman Yue Quanhui presented the plaque and letter of appointment to branch president Huang Min.

At the inaugural meeting, Chairman Yue said the association’s purpose is to “gather positive energy, control water pollution and improve the water environment.” He noted that China’s environmental law, the urban drainage and wastewater treatment regulation, and the action plans for air, water and soil pollution control were already in place. Water pollution in western Sichuan is severe and complex; control work requires close cooperation between regulators and dischargers. The West Sichuan Branch was set up to serve members in the region, integrate resources in water-pollution control, and provide a standing platform for government, dischargers and enterprises.

Branch president Huang Min said the branch will focus on water-pollution control, combining prevention and treatment, with emphasis on municipal wastewater, rural water pollution and industrial wastewater. Under government guidance, the branch will continue to serve government, enterprises and members, and to act as a bridge so that more people take part in environmental protection in western Sichuan.
